Perhaps you haven't heard about this little diamond in the rough offered by Verizon. In preparation for their Internet TV offering along with a lagging U.S. in comparison with internet services offered Asian nations, Verizon has been laying fiber-optics all around the U.S.

So what is Verizon FiOS? Verizon FiOS is the new internet service offered which is described as fiber-optic broadband. To be able to allow these speeds, Verizon has been laying a fiber-optic network that enables this super-fast DSL service. Pricing plans range from $39.95 per month, depending on whether it is packaged with phone service, for up to 5 megabits per second downstream with 2 megabits per second upstream. They also have plans from $49.95 for 15 Mbps/2 Mbps to $199.95 for 30 Mbps/5 Mbps.



Verizon has announced that there are nine states in which FiOS fiber deployment is currently underway:

• Parts of Huntington Beach and Murrieta, as well as portions of Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties in California
• Parts of Delaware
• Parts of North Tampa, as well as Hillsborough and Pasco counties in Florida
• Parts of Montgomery County in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area in Maryland
• Parts of Essex and Middlesex counties in Massachusetts
• Parts of Nassau, Rockland and Westchester counties in New York
• Parts of Bucks and Chester counties in Pennsylvania
• Parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas, as well as Colleyville, Grapevine and Southlake
• Parts of Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties, as well as the communities of Falls Church, Leesburg and Herndon in Virginia

So what's the catch to this Verizon FiOS fever? Not a thing. The first lucky resident of Keller, Texas posted pictures of his Verizon Fios fiber install. Along with those beautiful pictures, came the heart-wrenching speeds he now obtains.
