About TVover.net (TV over Internet)
TVover.net is a leading weblog for news and information about IPTV, Internet TV, online video and related topics. We also provide a directory of web sites offering online video and Internet TV, forums for discussion (IPTV Forums), an informational site (IPTV Information), and have big dreams for the future.
TVover.net was selected as one of CNet's top 100 blogs.
Thanks to our readers, users and those that help contribute to these evolving technologies.
How we started
There are only a few of us that make up TVover.net and we frequently travel around the globe for our day jobs. We make every attempt to stay connected while we work abroad. With the advent of VoIP, we started carrying Telephone Adapters so that we could continue calling in our home country at no extra cost. Unfortunately there was no such solution to stay connected with our favorite TV.
Thus we began our research and first looked into what was available for Internet TV. Unfortunately, Internet TV was nowhere close to showing primetime television or our favorite sports teams. It was during this search though that we became aware of IPTV. Our next thought was whether IPTV might eventually have the flexibility that VoIP has today. Could we travel the world with our "TV Adapter", and pending our broadband connection is sufficient, watch our favorite TV? While we have yet to hear about such a practice taking place, we hope the possibility exists in the future. We also learned that the technologies were either a long way off or had little following. (That has clearly changed.)
So it was in late 2004 that we decided to create TVover.net, a weblog, to cover the progression and just about anything related to IPTV, Internet TV, online video, TV over the net, or whatever other name you wish to call it. Our goal is to help increase awareness and adoption of these lifestyle-changing technologies.
Our Name
Birgit and I were brain-storming over a few good German beers at a bar named Baal in Munich, Germany, about what would be the name of our future project. After a few Helles, the creative juices were flowing and we tossed around a group of 20 or so names when it finally hit us. The new site would be called TVover.net, spoken aloud as TV-over-dot-net. The name was a winner - short, sweet, and fully described what we wanted to cover - TV over the Internet.
So, why are we going into such detail on our name? We want to provide some background since we receive many emails referring to the site as TVover. We can only imagine how people interpret this, but we do not believe TV is over, maybe redone, but not over.
Who we are
Curtis
I’m a technology delivery consultant who gets absorbed in just about any technology or start-up that is web-related. When I’m not reading or talking about one of the latter, I’m usually brain-storming with Birgit over a coffee or cold German beer.
Birgit
Birgit is probably one of the most creative people I know when it comes to advertising and creative thought. Her repertoire extends beyond that and includes marketing, branding, a masters in business, and is responsible for most of the image behind TVover.net,
IPTV Forums, and
IPTV Information.
Judson
Judson specializes in procrastinating but has great ideas so it’s truly a paradox. He runs the
VoIP Monitor site and covers for the rest of the team when we’re at a conference or running errands.
