Okay, so it’s not a possibility today but it will be in the near future. I should be admiring the fact that I am currently writing and posting this article from 35,000 feet in the air rather than dreaming about IPTV delivered to my laptop while in an airplane. And, I am. I believe I’ve instant messaged and emailed every one of my close friends and family to let them know I’m alive in the air and I’m connected!
So how am I connected from 35,000 feet in the air you ask? I give all the praise to
Lufthansa airlines who has equipped their airlines with
Connexion by Boeing. Connexion empowers airlines with the ability to offer wireless Internet on their airlines at a reasonable price to their customers. They offer minute planes at various rates but for only $29.95, I will have Internet access the entire length of my 9 hour flight from the U.S. to Europe.
So what about IPTV you ask? Well I can attest that the Internet connection isn’t blazing fast (11 Mbps thus far) so it may be awhile before we can stream our Internet TV up in the clouds. But one day, we will take our laptops, Playstation Portables, or other wireless devices onto planes and easily connect to the Internet to watch TV streamed from anywhere in the world. Now that’s our idea of home entertainment in the sky.
