TVN Entertainment, the leading provider of on demand television programming, management and delivery solutions, and
Widevine Technologies, the largest provider of content security solutions to the video over IP market and inventor of the Cypher Virtual SmartCard
TM, announced that the Widevine Cypher System has been implemented and is in use by TVN for pre-encryption and secure transport of VOD assets.
TVN is using Widevine's Cypher System to provide encryption of media from content owner to any VOD server. The move demonstrates the high importance that broadcasters and Hollywood Studios have placed on a comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management solution to protect content delivered in VOD release windows.
"TVN continues to set the standard in VOD delivery. We are delighted they have chosen the industry leader, Widevine, to persistently protect content down to the home," said Brian Baker, President and CEO of Widevine Technologies.
"TVN delivers over 2000 hours of high profile, high value, file-based content via satellite to our network of VOD distribution affiliates every month. It is absolutely imperative that we protect that content from unauthorized interception, and do so throughout our network. The challenge is daunting, both technically and economically, but Widevine has proven equal to the challenge," said Dom Stasi, TVN Chief Technology Officer. "With Widevine Cypher in place, I’m confident that TVN will continue to expand aggressively in the IPTV market with a delivery architecture that is both secure and future-proofed."
TVN delivers VOD services and programming to every major Cable MSO, and has signed over 30 telecommunications affiliates including Verizon, Century Tel and Surewest.
