While reading a "press release" from a company claiming to offer live Internet TV from around the world, I found several other sites that appear to offer the same functionality. In reality, these sites tend to not actually offer live Internet TV but redirect you to sites that do. After a little more research, it was clear to us that there are actually quite a few sites looking to provide the most comprehensive list of TV stations on the Internet. We even found software that provides a user friendly list of the free Internet TV stations in a nice little user interface but naturally the software wasn't free.
So what are some of these sites? Well the two most comprehensive lists we found were
SquidTV and
World Wide Internet TV. Neither site is easy on the eyes but they do provide a good list of the sites out there offering video on demand or Internet TV.
One thing to be sure to note is the different color codes for the type of streaming media. Most streams can be viewed using
Windows Media Player or
RealPlayer but some use
Winamp. Be sure your media players are up to date with the latest version or you may receive errors. Our version of RealPlayer was not recent enough to view most of the media until we upgraded.
To see how real this really was, we attempted to view several stations from around the world but it turned out to be a gamble whether they worked or not. We were at least able to watch some classic TV shows, listen to some new music, and receive news from around the globe. Overall, we're impressed to see so much content appearing on the Internet. Thanks to companies like
Narrowstep, it's definitely becoming easier.
Happy viewing and let us know what Internet TV channels you consistently watch.
