Japan's major TV networks are jumping on the Internet TV bandwagon. Nippon Television Network Corp. and Fuji Television Network Inc. announced they will begin to offer television programs on the Internet for a fee.
The move to offer TV over the Internet is a large shift in Japan. Historically, online distribution of TV programs has been limited because of copyright concerns.
Nippon Television is aiming to offer over 10,000 programs as early as this fall. All programs will be offered via video on demand and prices will start at 90 cents for a 15-minute program.
Fuji Television is working with Internet service providers to offer satellite TV programming over the Internet sometime in late July.
Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc., TV Asahi Corp. and TV Tokyo Corp. are also looking into their own streaming services.
