blinkx announced an agreement with
Akimbo, the first to deliver
digital-quality video-on-demand to any television via a broadband-Internet
connection. Under the agreement, blinkx will index Akimbo's video database,
allowing users of the website,
www.blinkx.tv, to find and send the programs
they want to their Akimbo Player or any Microsoft Windows Media Center 2005
with just a click of their mouse. Akimbo's award-winning service uses the
Internet to connect people with the programming they want, when they want it.
With over 5,200 titles from 80 different channels, Akimbo's programming ranges
from off the wall animated comedy as found in IFILM to do-it-yourself,
informational shows from DIY Network and Food Network, to fascinating
documentaries from The History Channel and National Geographic. Akimbo's
broad array of programming has something for everyone to enjoy.
The Web has changed the communications landscape, providing access to
massive amounts of information and entertainment. Now, with the expansion of
broadband in the home, Akimbo's service is the next step in entertainment. It
gives users the ability to order their favorite programs anytime, anywhere
from the Web delivering them via download directly to television sets.
blinkx's partnership with Akimbo will bring a new level of information to
the Akimbo Directory. blinkx.tv will automatically transcribe and index
Akimbo's content allowing users to find the exact program, movie or news item
they are looking for, to download and view on-demand.
"blinkx offers the kind of innovative technology that Akimbo likes to
support and is becoming known for. blinkx's automatic transcription will help
Akimbo subscribers find their favorite programs more easily than ever," said
Steve Shannon, founder and executive vice president of Akimbo.
"Akimbo has great content from some of the best known names in
entertainment, as well as hard-to-find programming that is not available
anywhere else. We are extremely excited to be partnering with them and
bringing even more great entertainment to our users," said Jon Gregg, VP
business development, blinkx.
