Westell Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of broadband access products, gateways and conferencing services, announces that it has joined two leading associations dedicated to the advancement of video and digital entertainment throughout the home: the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) and the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions' (ATIS) IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF). Westell's membership in these premier organizations reinforces and exemplifies the company's continued commitment to meeting broadband service providers' needs for reliable, standards-based technology required to deliver video services.
MoCA develops and promotes specifications for the transport of digital entertainment and information content over existing in-home coaxial cable. A MoCA network can transport video, voice and data at speeds of up to 270 Mbps and has been field tested across America in real-world situations to deliver over a net usable 100 Mbps at greater than 97% of coax outlets. Westell is joining key digital entertainment service providers - cable, satellite, and telecom - as well as leading networking equipment and consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers in support of the first home networking solution that delivers multiple streams of high-definition video and other digital entertainment throughout the home.
ATIS formed the IIF in June 2005 to develop standards and related technical and operational activities surrounding telco video service. The IIF's initial focus is on the creation of reference architecture for IPTV, content delivery, digital rights management, and interoperability standards that will streamline and simplify wide-scale deployment of IPTV.
"Westell's membership in two of the most respected organizations devoted to telco video initiatives demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the service provider community and their efforts to deliver quality digital entertainment that is reliable and cost-effective," remarked Gordon Reichard, Jr., vice president of marketing at Westell.
Westell will be showcasing video gateway technology, including the improved UltraLine and the new UltraLine II with an integrated MoCA interface, at the TelcoTV Conference and Expo, November 9th and 10th at the San Diego Convention Center.
