Verimatrix, a leading developer of IPTV content protection and security solutions, announced the live installations of its Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS) with two leading independent telecommunications carriers: Canby Telephone Association and Progressive Rural Telephone Co-op. Offering IP-based television service for live broadcasts and Video-on-Demand (VOD) content is becoming a key competitive advantage for regional telecommunications carriers.
"We have experienced success with deploying our content security solution for independent telcos because we can integrate quickly with their existing IPTV platforms," said Tom Munro, CEO, Verimatrix. "We understand that having access to content is extremely important in these markets and we are well-equipped to provide the required content security measures, which includes protecting content and the IPTV service itself."
The carriers have deployed the Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS) to protect live broadcasts and VOD sent over an IP network. VCAS is as a software-based content security solution built on the principles of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and X.509 digital certificates. Each deployment uses the Myrio TotalManage middleware solution, which has been integrated with VCAS.
Century-old Canby Telephone Association (CTA), located 20 miles south of Portland, serves more than 11,000 access lines with telephone, long distance, cellular service, television, and high speed Internet service. CTA is a local telephone cooperative and the first to offer advanced IPTV services, known as Canby Digital Television, in Oregon. Canby's digital television service officially launched in October 2005.
Progressive Rural Telephone Co-op, providing local service to more than 5,800 subscribers in five middle Georgia counties, is also offering IPTV to subscribers over existing copper phone lines. Progressive will deliver 141 TV networks, six local channels and 35 music channels in MPEG-2 over ADSL2+ lines, with plans to add local programming in the future. After conducting a trial with a limited number of subscribers, Progressive made its IPTV service available to all of its customers this year.
