Brightcove, an Internet TV pioneer, announced that Brightcove will offer On2 Technologies' Flash 8 video encoding technology to video publishers participating in the Brightcove commercial preview. Under the arrangement, hundreds of Brightcove commercial preview customers will receive a free license of On2 Flix Pro for Flash 8 to encode their content in Flash 8 video for distribution through Brightcove.
"The quality and flexibility of Flash 8 video make it the standard for delivering Internet TV content to the browser," said Jeremy Allaire, Brightcove chairman and chief executive officer. "By offering On2 Flix Pro to our commercial preview customers, we can give the first video publishers using Brightcove easy access to state-of-the-art encoding tools they need to prepare their content for delivery in broadband channels distributed with our service."
"The Brightcove model for content distribution is one of the most compelling models we have seen for using IP to distribute content," said Douglas A. McIntyre, chairman, president and chief executive officer of On2 Technologies. "Our arrangement with Brightcove allows their customers to get high-quality video to the over 600 million Flash 8 Players installed worldwide. We're thrilled that Brightcove has chosen Flash 8 video for their service and On2 Flix Pro as the encoding tool to provide to their content providers. We see this deal as a major endorsement of the Flash 8 video format and our On2 Flix products."
Brightcove is currently available in an invitation-only commercial preview, which is being used by a variety of publishers ranging from independent producers to large cable broadcasters. Using the open online service, publishers are able to reach consumers through a wide range of broadband channels on the Internet while generating revenue from advertising and pay media sales they control. Brightcove will be generally available in 2006.
