Couch potatoes may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to
Softel vdm, Inc.'s release of
MyTinyTV 1.0. The program allows anyone to watch real-time television on a Pocket PC - on the road across the Internet and wherever WiFi is available, which gives viewers many more exciting seating options than the living room sofa.
"MyTinyTV allows the user to watch television on a Pocket PC by the pool, on the porch, in the garage, on the roof, anywhere their wireless network reaches," explained Mike van der Meulen, Softel vdm president. "On the road, MyTinyTV can be used across the Internet via wireless broadband and at any WiFi hot spot. No matter where it's used, it provides all the channels the user's cable or antenna receives."
MyTinyTV works with a desktop PC's television tuner connected to the home's cable or antenna, sending the user's cable or antenna television channels and listings through a wireless network to their Pocket PC. The system includes an interface for the user's Pocket PC with channel up/down buttons, full listings and the ability to click for show descriptions and detailed programming information. Unlike other Pocket PC television services, MyTinyTV is not a subscription for Internet TV.
Surprisingly, watching television on a Pocket PC isn't that much different from the real thing. In fact, reports Softel vdm, a Pocket PC held at a comfortable viewing distance appears as large as a 27-inch television as viewed from across the room.
To help kick off MyTinyTV, Softel vdm is offering free, fully functional seven-day demo downloads of the product. "We invite people to download our free demo of MyTinyTV and test it on their own computers," said Mike van der Meulen. "After downloading our MyTinyTV installation, running it and following the prompts, they should be up and running in no time. We think once they have enjoyed MyTinyTV for a week, they'll want to have live TV on their Pocket PCs long-term."
MyTinyTV is available for purchase for $59.00, which includes a full year of free television listings. A complete list of system requirements is available at
