Harris Corporation today announced the expansion of its content delivery solutions portfolio to include a new, comprehensive Internet Protocol television (IPTV) offering. Harris' new offering is the only solution in the industry that spans three key layers of an IPTV architecture: business and operations; infrastructure; and test and measurement, monitoring and network management applications. As the only vendor capable of delivering a solution with this breadth and scale, Harris' IPTV offering will enable service providers to create and deliver complex cross-delivery advertising campaigns, programming playout and other network-based services across broadband network infrastructure.
"The IPTV market is growing quickly with many deployments in the planning stages," said Michelle Abraham, principal analyst with the market research firm In-Stat. "By the end of 2010, we expect there will be 47 million IPTV subscribers worldwide, up from 3.5 million at the end of 2005."
With this new offering, Harris can deliver complete digital content workflow processes in compressed or uncompressed domains at the national, regional or local headend offices. For the business and operational layer, which includes workflow solutions for airtime sales, traffic and scheduling, digital asset management and playout automation, Harris' total solution will encompass complete content management software for integrated workflows. At the infrastructure layer, products from the Leitch acquisition will deliver signal processing, ad insertion, routing and switching, as well as transport services across the core network infrastructure. Lastly, Harris' industry-leading products for optimizing networking performance include a broad portfolio of test and measurement equipment, as well as control and monitoring systems for maintaining optimal network integrity.
"With the addition of the Leitch portfolio of products, Harris Corporation is now uniquely positioned to offer all of the core elements of an interoperable, intelligent and cost-effective IPTV system," said Jay Adrick, vice president of Technology for the Broadcast Communications Division, Harris Corporation. "Customers benefit from choosing Harris as their single IPTV source because our solutions are designed to work together under common business rules, which greatly improves the system's overall reliability and efficiency."
