Rotani, Inc., a leading developer and designer of future generation wireless networking solutions, today announced the release of its VideoPuck technology for IPTV. VideoPuck is an end-to-end solution for multicast video in the home that enables error-free transmission of IPTV video when paired with standard Wi-Fi and HomePlug networking equipment.
IPTV service providers typically use multicast to simultaneously send video to a large number of subscribers. Originally designed for highly reliable wired networks, multicast does not provide the error correction required for wireless 802.11 and HomePlug networks. Continuous packet loss over 802.11 and HomePlug networks ultimately results in screen pixilation and poor video quality. Rotani's VideoPuck works with the company's AirReferee Wi-Fi technology to automatically eliminate packet loss over wireless networks and support the performance and quality required for IPTV and wireless video applications.
Standard 802.11 wireless networks--particularly those that operate in "noisy" environments--are plagued by interference. "Service providers need to deploy wireless systems that co-exist with each other, even in multi-tenant apartment buildings," said Roc Lastinger, President and Chief Technical Officer of Rotani. "AirReferee is a scalable system architecture that reduces interference from adjacent wireless LANs and sustains network performance. The combination of VideoPuck and AirReferee is a complete turnkey solution for IPTV."
Rotani's VideoPuck and AirReferee designs are available to OEMs and ODMs via open licensing agreements.
