Ikanos Communications, a leading developer and provider of Fiber Fast broadband solutions, today announced that its SmartLeap SL9400 solution is powering
Swisscom Fixnet's rollout of VDSL-based IPTV and triple-play services.
By selecting VDSL to deploy triple play and other interactive services, Swisscom Fixnet is able to provide a flexible video delivery service that is designed to be superior to cable operators' offerings.
"Swisscom Fixnet is committed to remaining one of Europe's most advanced service providers," said Adrian Bult, CEO and president of Swisscom Fixnet. "By utilizing Ikanos' field-proven VDSL technology, Swisscom will be able to rapidly deploy IPTV and service experiences that go far beyond what is available on cable."
Swisscom Fixnet chose VDSL technology because of its superior upstream and downstream bandwidth performance and deployment flexibility. With the ability to deliver up to 60/30 Mbps in short distance deployments and at 20/5 Mbps on longer loops up to 5000 feet, Ikanos' SL9400 solution provides Swisscom Fixnet with extensive network coverage for its next-generation services.
"We are pleased that Swisscom Fixnet is utilizing Ikanos-based solutions to power their next-generation service offerings," said Rajesh Vashist, chairman and CEO of Ikanos Communications. "We believe that deployments of video over VDSL will continue to accelerate, as carriers across Europe and around the world recognize that VDSL is designed to be the fastest and most cost-effective way to implement compelling interactive services."
