ViewCast president and COO Dave Stoner will present an overview of the future of Internet TV during the
TelecomNEXT Conference and Exposition at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas on March 21, 2006.
His presentation, titled "Internet TV -- The Road to Reality," will highlight the rapid and growing adoption of streaming media technologies that will eventually replace National Television System Committee (NTSC) standards as the method of choice for consumers to digest their media and entertainment.
Among other trends, Stoner will cite the rapid global growth in access to broadband communications connections -- with more than 200 million broadband users worldwide by the end of 2006 -- coupled with the declining price of set top boxes and gateways below $100, as primary forces behind the emergence of Internet television.
In his discussion, Stoner also will elaborate on the barriers to streaming media market acceptance and the steps that must be taken for streaming media to reach its market potential.
"The technology is there today to deliver video via IP networks to desktop computers as well as handheld devices," says Stoner. "The challenges lie in developing a business model for content delivery that makes sense economically; the form factor of the handheld device; and the method of delivery."
TelecomNEXT is billed as "the only place where the business and technology of communications and entertainment meet." The conference and exposition replaces SUPERCOMM, which was last held in 2005. TelecomNEXT will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 19-23, 2006.
