Sun Media Investment Holdings Limited ("Sun Media") and European company
LUXE.TV announced a partnership to create an interactive platform that will enable viewers to purchase luxury goods directly over the internet. The joint venture, provisionally called "LUXE.TV Interactive" will capitalize on the interactive technology developed by Sun Media and the access to LUXE.TV concept and program library to develop the first IPTV shopping channel of luxury goods in China. This IPTV channel is expected to be launched in the Chinese market in the latter half of 2006, with the objective to extend thereafter the business model globally. The joint-venture will also distribute LUXE.TV programs to broadcasters and other media companies in China.
Bruno WU, Chairman of Sun Media, said, "The Chinese market is ready for the Luxe TV concept. In the course of the next 10 years, China is expected to be the world-largest market for luxury goods. At the same time, we anticipate exponential growth in broadband internet usage. Today, more than 30 million households already have access to broadband internet connectivity."
