KyLinTV, Inc. and
LA 18 (KSCI-TV) today announced a multimedia partnership that breaks new ground in the IPTV marketplace, taking a local broadcaster to a national TV audience by way of the internet.
Beginning May 1, 2006, KyLinTV will incorporate premier Mandarin Chinese content regularly broadcast on LA 18 into its IPTV subscription service, and a joint web portal will offer content from both sources. KyLinTV subscribers across North America will have a new opportunity to view LA 18 programs. Using KyLinTV Video On Demand (VOD) capabilities, Los Angeles viewers will be able to watch LA 18 programs when their own schedule permits.
"Our collaboration with KyLinTV is moving IPTV beyond the PC and taking LA 18 beyond traditional avenues of content delivery. LA 18 programs will now be available in three ways: on LA 18, through KyLinTV and on the web, and will reach a national audience. This is good for our business, good for LA 18 viewers and a wonderful new addition for KyLinTV subscribers," said Peter Mathes, President and CEO of AsianMedia Group, the parent company of LA 18.
LA 18 programs on KyLinTV will include "LA Living," a variety show dedicated to the Chinese-American lifestyle. LA Living host, Juliette, is hugely popular with Chinese audiences in Southern California, and has been called the Chinese-American answer to Oprah. "LA Living" is a unique program that connects viewers with everything they need to know about the American lifestyle. "LA Living" is an invaluable resource for much of its audience who is learning to adapt to their new home in the United States while seeking to remain connected with news and views back in Asia. The LA 18 Evening News is the most watched Chinese language newscast in the United States featuring a lively mix of U.S. news, sports and weather. The LA 18 Evening news also features a balanced blend of news and views from China, Taiwan and across Asia. Both shows will also include extensive coverage of Hollywood with LA 18's red carpet access to the hottest stars and premieres.
"This partnership is an important step forward for KyLinTV and an important milestone for local broadcasters who want to reach a wider audience," said Nancy Li, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of KyLinTV. "Our technology makes it possible for over-the-air and geographically bound content providers to reach a national TV-viewing audience without the high costs of cable or satellite."
LA 18 broadcasts will air on KyLinTV each night and will be available nationwide beginning at 9:30 PM Eastern Time, and will be repeated at 11:00 PM. All LA 18 programs will be archived in the KyLinTV -VOD library for seven days to ensure access for all KyLinTV subscribers.
