Globecomm Systems Inc., a global provider of end-to-end satellite-based communications solutions, today announced an expansion of its Broadcast Lab, a test facility for leading-edge video applications established in 2001, to integrate test capabilities for the many technologies involved in the delivery of IPTV. Focusing on IPTV delivery networks that incorporate "a little bit of satellite," the Broadcast Lab is installing equipment from Omnibase, Entone, Terayon, Myrio and other leading suppliers.
The expansion equips Globecomm to conduct research and development, both for customers and for its own products and services, in areas that include MPEG-4, standardizing headend systems, integrating video-on-demand capability into regional headends and adapting advertising insertion systems for operation with IPTV content streams.
"Globecomm's business is based on the vast experience of our engineers and on intellectual capital including designs, patents and processes developed over the years by those engineers," said David Hershberg, Chairman and CEO. "Expanding the Broadcast Lab for IPTV is another step on the same road and follows our entry into the IPTV business with our recent contract to build the Super Headend for SES AMERICOM's IP-PRIME service and introduction of our SkyBorne IPTV Regional Headend and Lifecycle Support Services."
