Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) launches its state-of-the-art IP Based TV (IPTV) technology at BroadcastAsia 2006. ST Electronics’ IPTV solution is unlike other MPEG compressions available in the market today. This solution uses a more advanced H.264 compression technology, allowing reduced demand on the bandwidth at 700 kbps or below, while maintaining the video quality.
ST Electronics’ IPTV solution will provide an enhanced experience and create interactivity for the end user with a wide selection of converged services comprising a rich combination of video, voice and data (Triple Play) on television over the public network. This allows delivery of the same quality and contents with only 700kbps of bandwidth needed compared to the standard 2Mbps currently used. Service providers can thus significantly increase the number of users they can service at any one time. This technology edge realises the dream of connecting IPTV to households.
The IPTV solution will enable on-demand movie services, customised access to global television channels to serve differentiated viewer communities, as well as other interactive services like rapid e-purchases and games. ST Electronics offers a full spectrum technology and a one-stop end-to-end solution, from the service provider's head-end servers system to the customer’s set-top and even the streaming technology, customised to the customer's need.
The rollout of the IPTV solution follows closely behind ST Electronics success in the introduction of wireless broadband TV broadcast in place of cablevision in Latin America and other markets.
ST Electronics is teaming up with SPL Innotech to market and implement the IPTV in the international market. ST Electronics will employ its international business network and technical strength to rapidly expand product development and global sales, while SPL will focus on R&D and niche segments of the market.
