AT&T has slated to spend $336 million in the next three years to bring its U-Verse IPTV service to Connecticut. That, however, could change.
On June 7th, the state Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) voted 3-2 that IPTV is not subject to traditional cable franchising regulations.
However, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and the cable companies submitted an application for a temporary stay and the DPUC is considering. Mr. Blumenthal, like others, believes that AT&T will cherry pick the areas and customers they want to serve.
AT&T has responded in no light terms with John Emra, executive director for external and legislative affairs for AT&T Connecticut, stating that a stay would cause AT&T to withdraw the investment. "If there's a stay, it means we won't build in Connecticut," he said. "... We have a limited amount of capital, and we will invest it in states that want us to be there."
