East Los Angeles College, one of nine two-year public community colleges comprising the Los Angeles Community College District, announced that it has deployed
StarBak Communications, the leading provider of integrated network video solutions that allow organizations to simply and easily create, manage, deliver and display video-based applications over IP networks, for campus-wide video communications.
Established in 1945, East Los Angeles College serves students of Alhambra, Bell, Bell Gardens, City of Commerce, Cudahy, East Los Angeles, Huntington Park, Los Angeles, Maywood, Montebello, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, South Gate and Vernon. In an effort to provide enhanced distance learning options for its students, the College has deployed StarBak's Integrated Network Video (INV) solution to improve its ability to deliver classes and other programming, live and on-demand, to a geographically dispersed student population.
To further enhance classroom content, East Los Angeles College also makes supplemental content provided on DVD from textbook publishers available to students as streaming media, delivered online.
"Many of the students at East L.A. College are attending college while working full-time. Allowing students to access courseware using video on-demand, when it fits their busy schedules, is an advantage that results in better performance and improved learning," said Gonzalo Mendoza, Information Technology Manager of East Los Angeles College. "The StarBak solution was a good fit for us, as it not only gives the ability to offer video content online, but also allows us to stream important news and information to displays around the college."
"East Los Angeles College is making use of a variety of video communications tools to enhance the learning experience, from online courseware, to digital signage, to IPTV," said Cliff Petersen, StarBak Communications Regional Sales Director, western region. "StarBak's solution has proven to be a vital catalyst responsible for the delivery of these applications. This spring, the College also used StarBak's INV system to stream commencement ceremonies live and on-demand, enabling friends and family to view the event from locations around the world."
