WhiteBlox announced the release of a platform aimed at bringing traditional broadcast revenue models into the IPTV world of media distribution. The new platform combines media management software and a unique file format which allows content owners to package and deliver video-based media with an assortment of interactive management, revenue and licensing options.
With the new system, distributors can support their online content with traditional advertising models while giving audiences the convenience of on-demand viewing.
"This new WhiteBlox media manager throws the door wide open for traditional broadcasters to move their content into an online distribution model and still benefit from the tried and true advertising system that places commercials into content," said Greg Demetriades, Chairman and CEO of WhiteBlox. "This way, their audiences can still watch free, ad-supported television on the net, and show producers can get paid for delivering the content."
The technology gives content owners a variety of alternatives to simple pay-per-view and 'bumper' ad business models.
The appeal behind the technology is that it knows where and when the content is viewed. That means viewers of the content in Minnesota will see supporting advertising that is relevant to viewers in Minnesota, while content viewers in New York will see supporting advertising relevant to viewers in New York.
Because the technology is also time-aware, users who download episodes of their favorite sitcoms in 2006 will see all new, current ads when they play the sitcoms in 2007.
The technology also supports other types of marketing and promotional strategies such as polls, chats, surveys, contests, games, coupons and promotions.
WhiteBlox's new media manager will be offered during the fourth quarter of 2006 in Beta form to content owners exploring new revenue opportunities in content delivery, and is expected to be widely available to broadcasters and syndicators by the second quarter of 2007. Volume discounts, government and education licensing will also be available to eligible customers. Customers looking for more information please call 800-929-6726.
