Telecom Italia
announced a reorganization plan that entails breaking off and possibly selling its mobile and fixed-line unit businesses. According to chairman, Marco Tronchetti Provera, the reorganization will allow Telecom Italia to focus on broadband services. Provera coupled that statement with an announcement that Telecom Italia has reach an agreement with News Corp's 20th Century Fox arm to add additional content to its Alice IPTV service.
Meanwhile, the decision
sparked backlash among politicians, including Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi, who stated the announcement came as a complete surprise and goes against national interest.
