Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) rolled out it's IPTV service in Mumbai on Saturday marking the first IPTV deployment in India. The commerical launch of the service will be available to MTNL subscribers on October 21st and MTNL will be launching IPTV service in Delhi on the 17th.
The new service will offer telephone service, IPTV, and Internet through a "Tri-Band" plan, as they call it. The IPTV service will have around 25 channels at INR 199 ($4.40 or €3.50) per month and MTNL looks to expand the number of channels to 200-250 at a later stage.
The set-top-box required for the service will cost INR 6,000 ($132 or €105).
