On December 22, 2006,
TV 2 Norway became the country's first broadcaster to launch an all live online TV service, thereby strengthening its position as the leading provider of video on demand and web-TV services in Norway.
The new service enables Norwegian viewers to watch all the channels in TV 2's channel portfolio live online in high quality, including TV 2, TV 2 Zebra, the TV 2 Film Channel and the new 24-hour news channel, Nyhetskanalen, which is due to launch on January 15th.
All one needs in order to watch the live channels is a PC with a broadband connection. The live channels can only be viewed from within Norway while on-demand content can be viewed from anywhere in the world.
Simultaneously with the launch of the live services TV 2 web-TV also changed its name to
TV 2 Sumo (Sumo meaning to take, choose, obtain, buy). TV 2 Sumo is now the collective name for all web-TV, IPTV and mobile TV services from TV 2 and will create a more distinguishable branding and profile for these services.
TV 2 Sumo is a subscription service with weekly, monthly or annual subscription options.
