Bell Aliant has chosen
Widevine to protect its broadcast service, Aliant TV. Bell Aliant evaluated the entire market for content security and determined that Widevine's content security and proven deployments with other Canadian service providers -- SaskTel, Telus and MTS Allstream -- were key factors in meeting their business goals now and as their service expands. Widevine also was able to meet Aliant's aggressive time-to-market goals. Bell Aliant's conversations with the broadcasters yielded a high regard for Widevine's patented content security capabilities and fast renewability of client security on a wide range of consumer platforms.
Aliant TV offers 300 channels of digital IPTV programming including broadcast TV, Pay-Per-View movies and events, over 90 regional radio stations and 40 commercial-free all-music channels. Its Interactive Program Guide lets users conveniently watch TV, channel surf and select programs.
"We talked with other operators who have successful TelcoTV deployments using Widevine's downloadable content security solution and knew we could acquire the premium content we needed to get operational quickly," says Gary Lund, Bell Aliant's Chief Technical Officer. "We chose Widevine because it provided a fully integrated solution that allowed Aliant to suitably protect all of its IPTV content with minimum custom development work for us as an operator."
"Canada is very progressive with TelcoTV deployments and growth of new services. Now with Bell Aliant's selection of Widevine, it further demonstrates that Widevine is the preferred content security company that enables operators to license high-value Hollywood content -- a critical component in a competitive marketplace -- and to offer greater choice to their customers with new devices," says Brian Baker, Widevine's CEO. "We are pleased to secure Bell Aliant's delivery of premium content along with all of Canada's TelcoTV deployments."
