KT has signed a deal with Internet content service operator NHN to cooperatively develop the IPTV service Mega TV. NHN owns popular Korean portal Naver, and is expected to provide a wide range of services through the TV platform. These will include a TV search service, full-duplex data channel service user Naver, Hangame and Junior Naver, and various other digital data services provided by websites.
Choi Hwui-Young, President of NHN, commented: “By cooperating with KT, which has built the broadest and most reliable communications network infrastructure, we are confident that our IPTV service will be able to provide more valuable services to our customers. The goal of NHN’s ‘convergence service’ is to provide convenient services that users want from various platforms.”
NHN and KT will meanwhile start to provide information search and data channel services via Mega TV until the end of the year, and will expand the scope of these services as Mega TV evolves into IPTV.
