ATEMET announces that French television broadcaster M6 has standardized its IPTV encoding platform around the ATEME KyrionT H.264 solution. M6 can now deploy 9 SD channels and its HD channel M6 HD directly through ADSL. The entire ADSL encoding head-end has been standardized on Kyrion to achieve the best-possible quality and bandwidth efficiency.
"The decision to select MPEG4-H.264 encoding enables us to provide the best-possible quality for the channels transmitted by ADSL operators - this is critical to maintaining the image of quality associated with M6," said Benoit Renaud, Technical Director of M6. "ATEME was chosen after extensive image quality comparative testing. This open-standards decision also allows us to be compatible with ADSL operators' platforms and deployed set-top boxes."
"By choosing to encode their channels themselves, M6 have made a strategic qualtiity decision that we expect will be followed by other broadcasters around the world who wish to maintain quality control standards of their content," said Benoit Fouchard, VP of Sales for Broadcast and Broadband at ATEME. "With Kyrion, M6 channels can now be broadcast by ADSL providers with a bitrate and image quality fully approved by the network itself."
