Unión Electrica has deployed the
Verimatrix Video Content Authority System for IPTV within its platform solution for the UNE-EPM Telecomunicaciones IPTV deployment. UNE-EPM will be formally launching its IPTV service in Medellín and Bogotá over the next few months. Verimatrix joins partners Orca, Sagem and Bitband for this groundbreaking IPTV deployment in Columbia.
UNE-EPM's IPTV service will include 103 broadcast TV channels and will offer VoD and PVR functionality later in the year as it expands into other operating regions When fully deployed, the service will be available to as many as 1.6 million existing UNE-EPM phone and cable subscribers.
For this deployment, they integrated VCAS for IPTV, Verimatrix's flagship solution built on the principles of Public Key Infrastructure and X.509 digital certificates. A downloadable security system for IPTV clients is not only more secure, it enables less expensive STB hardware and software and can be updated or renewed as required to combat the pirates attacks.
VCAS has received very favorable results in independent audits and is the approved security choice in pay-TV operator deployments on a worldwide basis, including IPTV-Americas, a company offering wholesale/retail IPTV services to telephone companies in Latin America.
