Verimatrix announces that
TeliaSonera has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System for IPTV for the tier one telecommunications operator's successful IPTV services in the Nordic region, Estonia and Lithuania. Telia Digital-TV, which was one of the first IPTV services in Europe to launch in 2005, offers subscribers compelling new programming packages that include 70 channels such as Discovery and the Disney Channel and a 24-hour on-demand library of movies.
Janne Yli-Äyhö, senior vice president and head of TV, Content and Digital Home, TeliaSonera, commented, "We needed a content security solution that we could install quickly and cost-effectively, and given our rapidly-growing subscriber base, it had to have proven scalability. There's no question Verimatrix can deliver iron-clad security for our broadcast and on-demand content. Plus, we were impressed with their ease of integration with our existing platform components."
Ranked as the most widely-deployed IPTV content protection system worldwide, VCAS for IPTV is a software-based solution that eliminates the vulnerabilities related to smart card-based architectures. Through the leverage of mature, proven two-way Internet security protocols, a Public Key Infrastructure public/private key pair system and X.509 digital certificates, the downloadable solution is not only more secure, it enables less expensive set-top box or client device hardware. Deployed with a large number of other tier one operators, VCAS for IPTV is well-suited to accommodate Telia Digital-TV's 300,000-plus subscribers.
"Our latest deployment with TeliaSonera is a testament to our product innovation and customer care support that enables us to easily respond to their content security needs," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. "Telia Digital-TV is helping to advance IPTV services throughout Europe as they continue to deploy leading-edge technologies."
