Swarmcast launches its live streaming video platform for consumer electronics devices, dubbed Autobahn Live for CE. In conjunction with the launch of this product, Swarmcast announced that its first CE device partnership is with Roku, maker of the popular Roku digital video player.
Swarmcast's partnership with Roku presents live content providers with a new distribution channel, opening a floodgate of possibilities for sports, concerts and other live events. Coupled with improved quality and reliability for live Internet TV, this new path to the television provides content owners with opportunities to grow revenue through subscription or advertising models.
A significant milestone was announced this week when Swarmcast customer Major League Baseball Advanced Media made its MLB subscription service available through the Roku player, representing the first major sports service made available over IP direct to the TV.
Building on Swarmcast's successes with large-scale, browser-based live Internet video streaming, Autobahn HD for CE brings the same scalable, reliable, high-fidelity experience into the living room and on to the big screen TV. In devices enabled by Autobahn HD for CE, consumers get video that is constantly optimized for their network connection, in the high-fidelity H.264 codec. This eliminates rebuffering, and ensures that a viewer is always watching video at the highest quality possible - providing a full lean-back experience for live Internet video. To provide massive scale and reliability, Autobahn HD for CE utilizes global HTTP serving resources instead of streaming servers.
