Iskon has deployed
Edgeware's Orbit-2X server platform to deliver advanced on-demand IPTV services, including network Personal Video Recording, catch-up of live TV and Video-on-Demand. With Edgeware's Orbit-2X server platform, IskonĀ“s nPVR service allows subscribers to record up to ten hours of live TV in the network, with a catch-up TV service that enables viewers to replay the last 48 hours of broadcasts from the four most popular TV-channels in Croatia.
Iskon.TV, Iskon Internet's IPTV service launched in April 2009, is now available in nine Croatian cities, offering over 40 TV channels and a number of converged triple play services.
Edgeware's industry leading Orbit-2X platform enables the on-demand TV experience by targeting the key video delivery challenge: the bandwidth explosion driven by increased concurrency rates. Network congestion is cost-efficiently eliminated through intelligent content caching close to the viewers, and where central and distributed Edgeware servers act as one single, logical system. This system is scaled by adding servers in the network where they make the most economical sense.
Mikael Samuelsson, Vice President Channel Sales of Edgeware adds, "The time-shift capability offered by our highly scalable server solution paves the way for the paradigm shift to the all-on-demand TV future. Iskon is a good example of a customer who has seen where the market is going, and who offers an advanced nPVR service as part of its initial IPTV offering."
