Digital Rapids announces the release of version 3.4 of the Digital Rapids Stream software for the company's StreamZ, StreamZHD, Flux and DRC-Stream encoding and live streaming solutions. In addition to previously announced new features -- including frame-compatible 3D support and enhanced JPEG2000, H.264 and MPEG-2 format support -- the version 3.4 release also includes support for the MXF AS02 application specification, enhanced Microsoft Internet Information Services Smooth Streaming capabilities, expanded video and audio processing plug-ins and more.

Version 3.4 enhances the Stream software's optional MXF input and output modules with support for the AS02 specification. AS02 is a constrained version of the MXF standard, designed to increase interoperability and efficiency during mastering and versioning processes.

Tivus announces they have formed a strategic partnership with Falcon IP/Complete, a proven HD IPTV engineering and systems integration solutions provider, to integrate and install Tivus' unique-to-the-industry Internet-based hotel video-on-demand and TV entertainment system.

Opera Software announces that its newly-released Opera Devices SDK 2.9 will have out-of-the-box support on Broadcom's BCM7420 set-top-box SoC platform.

This latest browser has been integrated with Broadcom’s flexible set-top box API (application programming interface), providing a common Opera porting environment across a broad range of cable, satellite and IP set-top-box SoCs. These devices include current generation products such as the BCM7400, BCM7405, and BCM7335 and next-generation 40nm devices such as the BCM7231 and BCM7425.

Wi3 is set to solve the problem existing in homes today of delivering Internet services to TVs. Solutions today include standalone devices such as WiFi Access Points and Ethernet over Powerline units. However, these solutions are limited in delivering the reliable high bandwidth connections that are absolutely required for video streaming services such as NetFlix, Hulu and Apple TV. The Wi3 solution is a true built-in network solution that combines hardwired Ethernet and WiFi to deliver the best possible signal levels for all consumer connected devices throughout the home.

Netgem enables operators to take advantage of the surge of multimedia screens in the Home Network. Bringing connected TV services to the connected devices presents operators with both a challenge and an opportunity.

By 2014, connected devices will outnumber IPTV subscribers and additional screens such as smartphones and tablets will come in addition in most homes in the US, and elsewhere. The agreement means that mirada will integrate its innovative Navi Electronic Programme Guide with the award-winning Ericsson IPTV middleware solution to ensure that operators can provide their customers with the best possible advanced TV services. As part of the agreement, Mirada’s Navi EPG will be included in Ericsson’s IPTV product catalogue and will be offered to customers worldwide. mirada has been developing EPG applications for more than 10 years and has used this experience to ensure that the Navi EPG is intuitive, simple to learn and use, yet highly powerful.

Metrological Media Innovations and IneoQuest Technologies announce that Metrological has licensed IneoQuest's patented and patent-pending quality assurance, IQVeriStream, technology for monitoring adaptive bit rate video streams. The move will allow Metrological to include the IneoQuest quality assurance metrics for adaptive bit rate video delivery in its MediaConnect TV solution.

Adaptive bit rate methodologies are used to stream video to Apple iPhones and iPads, Microsoft Silverlight clients, and many other types of end devices, including next-generation hybrid broadcast-broadband set top box and digital TV designs. The IQVeriStream license granted to Metrological will allow Metrological customers to include the IQVeriStream metrics in their Digital TV and set top box designs and determine whether any problems are local to the client system or due to head-end encoding or network congestion issues. FetchTV has selected Envivio's Three Screens solution as the delivery platform for its subscription TV offering. The FetchTV service employs Envivio 4Caster-C4 video encoders, featuring Extreme-codec technology, to deliver visually stunning standard and high definition content over capacity restricted broadband networks without degradation. The 4Caster C4 allows FetchTV to create a high quality alternative to incumbent services that can be delivered by Australian ISPs over consumers' existing broadband connections. The systems have been deployed at two head-ends located in Melbourne and Sydney.

KIT digital has executed a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Benchmark Broadcast Systems based in Singapore. (All currency figures below are reported in U.S. dollars.)
