Imagine Communications announces a system upgrade to their award-winning ICE® Video Platform. The new platform upgrade provides system operators with a single unified appliance for processing HD and SD IPTV streams as well as Adaptive Bit Rate streams for multiscreen delivery.

Built with Imagine's industry-leading ICE-Q Advanced Video Compression, the high density platform doesn't sacrifice on picture quality or reliability features. Full decode/encode with metadata pull-through on all channels enables optimized scene change detection while making full utilization of original encode parameters. Also introduced are granular PID-level redundancy mechanisms, enabling new levels of service protection, both upstream and downstream, from the ICE Video Platform transcoder.

MobiTV and Deutsche Telekom are partnering to develop a converged media platform that will enable the delivery of content across multiple platforms including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, Internet TVs and set-top boxes (STB). Deutsche Telekom will integrate MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution to support the commercial release of its converged media services.

The first phase of the technology partnership began with a trial implementation of the converged multi-screen service that integrates MobiTV’s TV Everywhere solution into Deutsche Telekom existing IPTV service "Entertain." As a key component of the convergence service ecosystem, MobiTV’ s TV Everywhere solution will enable Deutsche Telekom’s IPTV subscribers to view both live and on demand video content on authorized PCs, tablets and smartphone devices.

Quantenna and Sagemcom announce a collaborative agreement to integrate Quantenna’s Wi-Fi technology in Sagemcom video bridges and other Wi-Fi products, accelerating time-to-market for advanced wireless video and TV services.

Quantenna’s high performance 802.11n 4x4 MIMO solutions will enable Sagemcom to deliver value-added services to their subscribers that include the ability to stream and distribute HDTV along with other video content to multiple wireless devices in the home, such as Wi-Fi tablets and smartphones – with rock-solid whole home wireless coverage. This simplifies installation and enables a better home entertainment experience anywhere in the home.

Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecom operator, has chosen Ericsson to deploy and integrate a new IPTV platform that will deliver multi-screen interactive multimedia services to more than 900,000 subscribers. The new platform will replace Chunghwa’s existing IPTV system and respond to a growing demand from consumers for content anywhere, any time on a wide range of devices including TVs, computers, smartphones and tablets.

The Chunghwa Telecom deal also includes Ericsson Multiscreen TV and the Ericsson Media Connect (IPTV Remote) service. The new services are due to be available to subscribers in December of this year.

Vimond Media Solutions released new components in its Vimond Applications Suite for multi-screen web and device apps. Based on the Vimond Online TV platform, the expanded Application Suite consists of Web-app templates that broadcasters can use to develop services; client apps such as the Vimond Sports Center Application developed using Microsoft Silverlight; and apps for iOS devices (iPad and iPhone), Android, and Windows phones. The company plans to support HTML5-based Web apps in the future.

The solution, launched at IBC 2011, combines hardware and software to enable the expansion in processing needed to deliver a multi-screen offering. The Ericsson solution enables high quality and cost effective processing of hundreds of channels into thousands of adaptive streaming profiles. The Ericsson SPR1200 Multiscreen Stream Processor, a true hardware approach to Multi-screen compression, is combined with the Ericsson NPR1200 Multiscreen Network Processor, a dense software-based adaptive streaming segmentation and encryption processor, designed to track dynamic updates in adaptive streaming formats and DRM systems associated with the needs of delivery to different types of devices, as well as supporting an array of deployment architectures and formats.
