Alcatel Demonstrates Triple Play Solution at Broadband World Forum Asia
Alcatel will demonstrate its end-to-end triple play solution at the Broadband World Forum (booth nr 1601) in Yokohama, Japan. Real triple play applications will be shown live, running on Alcatel network infrastructure, demonstrating not just all the components but also the expertise needed to integrate them in an end-to end solution. As time to market is key for telecom operators, Alcatel has pre-integrated the complete solution as demonstrated live at the Broadband World Forum in Japan.
Telecom operators all over the world recognize that running a triple play network requires much more than simply adding new modules to their networks. They increasingly seek vendors who are capable of integrating the different products and services, with the shortest time to market possible. Deploying triple play services, which include high bandwidth services such as IPTV, requires a network transformation process, which is enabled by leading-edge IP, access and optical technologies.
"Triple play is showing strong momentum in Asia Pacific as operators are looking to meet a large untapped demand, while generating new revenue at the same time. They are turning to Alcatel to provide a fully integrated end-to-end solution that can help them deliver the new user-centric services with associated quality of service that their customers demand", said Christian Reinaudo, President of Alcatel's Asia Pacific activities.
"Our approach to solve our customer's challenges when entering the triple play market, has been two-fold", said Michel Rahier, in charge of Alcatel's Fixed Communication Group activities. "We've developed the best products and solutions, which are innovative and revenue generating, as well as the skill set to deliver end-to-end service integration capabilities. The introduction of IP video to the mass market, takes the operators through a learning curve, which needs to be as short as possible to speed up the time-to-market."
One of the most promising services to hit the scene, IPTV will enable network operators and service providers to deliver user-centric TV services. In this demo, guests will see how the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform will deliver video content over an Alcatel GPON-based FTTU or FTTN-VDSL access network using the Alcatel Service Router and Ethernet Services Switch along with optical solutions. This demo will focus on the user experience of the Microsoft TV platform - including instant channel changing and DVR functionality such as pausing or rewinding live TV. The Alcatel/Microsoft integrated solution will help service providers reduce deployment costs and shorten time-to-market for video services as they transition to mass-market deployments.
Alcatel has gained unparalleled integration and network design experience in triple play by working on more than 25 major video deployments around the world, including SBC (US), Swisscom, Softbank Yahoo (Japan), FastWeb (Italy) and very recently SuperSUN (Hong Kong) and Sistema (Russia). In its $1.7B (USD) Project Lightspeed, SBC selected Alcatel as the network and video services integration partner with the responsibility for the end-to-end integration of the network. Collectively, Alcatel has been part of nearly 70% of all IPTV projects to date. More than 120,000 live subscribers of IPTV are hosted on Alcatel systems with millions more on the way. No other vendor has that depth or breadth of experience.
