HP partners with Orca Interactive to Deliver IPTV in China
HP, a leader in the IT industry, has formed a close partnership with Orca Interactive, a global market leader in developing applications for IPTV, to offer a complete triple play of broadband TV solutions to telecommunications carriers and service providers in Mainland China.
As part of the partnership, HP will prime and lead projects with customers incorporating Orca's RiGHTv Telco-grade middleware applications for the delivery of IPTV services such as broadcast TV over IP, VOD (Video-on-Demand), NVOD (Near Video-on-Demand), PVR (Personal Video Recording), pay-per-view, games, T-commerce and other interactive services. The two companies announced that they have also completed the installation of full-scale demo systems in Shanghai and Beijing to provide customers with a first-hand experience with the IPTV solution.
Orca and HP will demonstrate the industry first MPEG-4 part 10 video streaming in booth 6C01 at the CCBN2005 show, taking place March 21-23 in Beijing.
This announcement comes on the heels of Orca and HP's industry first, full scale IPTV benchmark for 500,000 subscribers as proof of the solution's high scalability for supporting large-scale commercial IPTV deployment.
"Through this partnership with Orca, HP is continually extending its leadership position in the IPTV market by helping the major access providers remain competitive with a proven, reliable solution for delivering enhanced video entertainment services over xDSL networks," said Tony YEOH, GM of HP China Consulting & Integration Services. "The combination of the HP IPTV solution integrated with leading IT infrastructure products and Orca's RiGHTv application suite creates a powerful platform for delivering enhanced triple play services."
"Orca and HP share a prominent global position strengthened through this relationship," said Yosi Glick, vice president of marketing and business development, Orca Interactive. "HP's wide support coverage, strong solution integration and implementation capability in telecommunication and service provider areas, together with Orca's Telco-grade applications, provide the best of breed IPTV solution in China."
HP's IPTV end2end solution includes other components such as video server, decoder/encoder, digital rights management, set-top-box, business support system (BSS) and operation support system (OSS). HP also offers consulting and integration services for business transformation consulting, solution architecting, integration and customization.
Orca's RiGHTv is system integrator enabled, providing HP with the flexibility to choose IPTV value-chain components from a variety of vendors and allowing for customization and upgrading to fit the evolving needs of operators. RiGHTv's SUI SDK (subscriber user interface software development kit) gives HP and the operators control over UI look and feel, easily enables in-house and third-party application development, and STB porting.
