Teknovus Announces China-Focused EPON FTTH Solutions – The TK3715
Teknovus' TK3715 complies with China Telecom's EPON specifications and is the industry's first production-ready EPON ONU that is fully compatible with China Telecom. It is based on Teknovus' widely deployed TK3713, offering a single-chip IPTV ready ONU with industry leading power, size and cost.
Teknovus' TK 3715 incorporates China Telecom's specifications in the areas of security, DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation) and interoperability with other EPON chip vendors. China Telecom announced the results of their extensive interoperability testing at the recent China Lightwave FTTH conference. Teknovus EPON chips passed or exceeded all testing parameters.
Four equipment vendors have announced deployment of Teknovus' EPON systems in China including Salira Systems, Ocean Broadband, Fiberhome and Suminet (a division of Sumitomo). They, along with Teknovus' unannounced partners, are enabling the traditional PTTs, such as China Telecom and China Netcom, cable operators, and mobile operators to support advanced broadband services including premium video such as IPTV, high-speed data, and VOIP, as well as legacy services covering cell site backhaul, leased line data and TDM voice.
According to Dr. Shen Cheng Bin of China Telecom's Shanghai Research Institute, "China Telecom recently completed the China EPON standard focusing on FTTH and FTTB applications. System vendor interoperability testing will be completed by year-end, facilitating major EPON deployments in 2007. China Telecom's EPON chip vendor interoperability testing ensured that deployments will meet performance, security, and management parameters."
"Our TK3715 focuses on the Chinese market by incorporating our highly integrated single-chip IPTV-capable ONU with China Telecom's specifications," stated Dr. Rex Naden, CEO of Teknovus. He further stated "Today's EPON solutions are at the same price point as VDSL while supporting bandwidth-hungry applications, such as HDTV, VOD and on-line gaming."
Analysts predict that there will be more than 20 million IPTV users in China by 2010. Bandwidth demand for advanced video services and the cost/performance of EPON compared to other broadband solutions are key market drivers. China is expected to surpass Japan in EPON chip deployments in 2009 with the China PON market representing $600 million.
Come see Teknovus at the IEEE Access '06 Business Forum in San Francisco on November 29th as Dr. Niel Ransom leads the "EPON Deployment" panel featuring key equipment vendors from around the globe. In December, please visit our vendors' booths at ITU Telecom World in Hong Kong to view interactive demos of our EPON systems. Details are posted on our website at
