Market Overview IPTV Test Equipment Market Sees Strong Growth in 2005
As recently as 2003, there was virtually a non-existent market for IPTV test and measurement equipment. However, by 2005 it had grown significantly to register revenues of $52.2 million, representing a considerable increase of 38.4 percent over 2004. The market is expected to grow by more than 5 times by the end of the forecast period (2010). Telecommunication and cable companies are likely to compete aggressively to offer triple play services, and this is anticipated to drive VoIP test equipment and solution vendors to provide IPTV test capability within the same box.
The trend in the IPTV test and measurement market is the need to have equipment and solutions for triple play, covering both IPTV and VoIP, remarks the analyst of this research service. This trend is expected to increase the overlap of revenues between the VoIP test equipment market and IPTV test equipment market throughout the forecast period. Revenues are expected to increase significantly as network operators aggressively roll out IPTV services and post-2008 they are expected to witness a stable growth rate.
Triple Play Test Expected to Drive Demand for IPTV Test Equipment
There is an increasing trend among telecom companies to deploy complex wired and wireless networks to support data, voice, as well as video applications over a common infrastructure. With triple play services gaining popularity, deploying a pure-play IP video network seems a distant possibility. The focus is clearly on developing next-generation networks on which data, voice, and video applications can seamlessly converge. This is leading IP video test equipment vendors to increasingly offer triple play solutions, says the analyst. This factor is expected to boost the demand for test equipment, and as an emerging trend, the impact of this driver is estimated to be very high throughout the forecast period.
Triple play has tremendous growth potential in Asia, particularly China, as Asian users are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Test vendors will have to suitably position themselves to support telecom operators across the region to deliver triple play services. Southeast Asia is currently a leader in IPTV adoption, given that seven out of its 13 countries have rolled out some sort of service in this area. Thus, large-scale adoption of IPTV in Asia makes it a highly profitable market for IPTV test vendors to target.
