The BBC writes, "An Austrian village is testing technology that could represent the future of television." We think they’re right.

Residents of Engerwitzdorf have been empowered with hardware and software that allows them to turn video footage into edited programs that can then be uploaded to the Buntes Fernsehen portal where other people can browse what they want to watch. The channel covers local politics, sports, news, events, and anything that the Engerwitzdorf residents want to film for others to view via the Internet.



The pilot has been so successful that Telekom Austria is now considering setting up other projects elsewhere. "It's growing unbelievably fast," said Rudolf Fischer, head of Telekom Austria's fixed line division.

The article also noted that a larger TV-on-demand project is due to launch in Vienna that will let people download programs from the net.
