Digisoft.tv announces the general availability of it's eRental Movie Download Platform. The solution enables customers to download HD and SD movies from an in-store kiosk to a portable storage device for later viewing at home

The new eRental Movie Download platform takes traditional movie rental to the next level by using abundant, increasingly affordable portable memory technology combining ease-of-use with the latest security technology and video compression standards in a patented package. The solution has been developed in conjunction with Video Ezy, Australia and uses best-of-breed encryption and watermarking technologies from Verimatrix.

Earlier this year Video Ezy announced plans which will see the eRental Movie Download platform rolled out in Video Ezy and Blockbuster stores in Australia and New Zealand. Video Ezy has over 1,000 stores and serves over 8 million customers.

The main components of the eRental Movie Download platform include an In-Store Kiosk with movie library, Branded USB or iPOD type storage system and In-Home Java Set top Box. The Consumer simply plugs the USB or iPOD into the kiosk to select movies to rent for later playback on the Java Set top box. They only pay for what they watch.

The platform is based on Digisoft’s Java based middleware technology and utilises high profile H.264 encoding and is designed to be comparable with BluRay™ technology. It is fully integrated with the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System security solution, combining robust encryption with forensic watermarking, output copy protection, as well as sophisticated and innovative software and hardware anti-tamper technologies to protect premium content from Hollywood and other sources. Digisoft’s DigiHost Service Delivery Platform manages user authentication and entitlement through a low-bandwidth or intermittent wireless IP connection with the set-top box.

Digisoft’s set top box and Java middleware solution provides operators with a range of feature rich applications combined with support for the latest high definition technology TV viewing and gives them the flexibility to adopt new advanced online delivery and revenue models in the future.
