Sweden-based TeliaSonera AB has chosen Irdeto Access, a world leader in content security, to provide its industry-leading IPTV solution to protect the content of it's new Telia Digital TV service. The successful launch, which took place on 27 January, makes TeliaSonera Sweden one of the region's first triple-play operators, offering voice, broadband internet and video services to its customers.

Irdeto Access, a subsidiary of multinational media group Naspers (NASDAQ: NPSN and JSE: NPN) developed Irdeto PIsys for IPTV, a content security solution that controls subscriber access to broadcast and on-demand video services and prevents unauthorized viewing. This enables TeliaSonera Sweden to protect the best possible programming from content providers, who, based on a long and successful track-record, trust Irdeto Access to secure valuable pay TV content.

Irdeto PIsys for IPTV serves the more than 30 broadcast channels offered by Telia Digital TV and pre-encrypts video on demand content from the point of ingestion all the way to the end-user. TeliaSonera Sweden is thus able to offer subscribers innovative new "video rental" services from the comfort of their own homes, increasing both customer revenue and retention in a highly competitive environment in Sweden.
