Eagle Broadband Adds New STB For IPTV and Hospitality Markets
Eagle Broadband
, Inc. announced today the availability of the company's new MediaPro IP3000SD, a standard definition IP set-top box for the residential IPTV, hospitality and other vertical markets.
The launch of the IP3000 platform accelerates Eagle's push into the residential IPTV market with the company's most cost effective, entry-level set-top box. The IP3000 product family complements Eagle's existing high-end IP5000 family of IP set-top boxes enabling the company to now deliver a full range of standard and high-definition solutions for the residential IPTV market. The IP3000 is also an ideal entry level solution for the hospitality industry, providing a robust, compact solution for economy and mid-level hotel properties.
Capable of supporting a variety of leading middleware and video-on-demand systems, the IP3000 platform delivers the advanced content system security and digital rights management (DRM) needed by a wide variety of industries including telco, hospitality, enterprise, and government markets. Available in MPEG2 format, the IP3000 also supports the new MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video compression standard. It is available in a standard definition format today as the IP3000SD.
"We developed the IP3000 to meet the specific needs and growing demand from telephone companies, new broadband providers and hospitality operators for a very cost-effective, fully featured, low-end IP set-top box for the hospitality and residential IPTV markets," said David Micek, president and CEO of Eagle Broadband. "Eagle's goal is to build upon our successes and expand in the low-end hospitality market, while leveraging additional set top box revenue opportunities with our IPTVComplete(TM) video service offering. From this solid base, we can pursue additional vertical markets including enterprise, point of sale and others that require higher-performance in a smaller, lower cost form factor."
"The IP set-top box market is expected to take off in 2006 and 2007, as telco IPTV deployments expand beyond MPEG2 with a broader segment of DSL-based service providers using new MPEG4 compression technologies to deliver video to their end-customers," said Richard Webb, directing analyst with Infonetics Research. "We expect the annual IP set-top box market to exceed $450 million worldwide in 2006 as more and more incumbent and competitive service providers enter the IP video business and hospitality owners continue to transition to IP-based networks," Webb added.
The MediaPro IP3000SD is a cost-effective, standard definition set-top box designed to meet the needs of the residential IPTV, hospitality, enterprise and other vertical markets. With a compact footprint and quiet, fan-less design that delivers exceptional streaming video quality, the IP3000SD support both NTSC and PAL broadcast standards. The IP3000SD uses an advanced system-on-chip architecture with an integrated graphics accelerator to provide advanced functionality in a low cost platform. The architecture has dedicated multimedia engines executing in parallel to deliver the highest performance 2D, 3D graphics and video capabilities with motion compensation for video playback. Proprietary hardware security features facilitate advanced content protection while supporting a range of leading middleware platforms, rapid development of customized applications and the fastest path to deployment.
