VEVI is preparing to launch its first IPTV venture, DiasporaTV. The new company will offer IPTV service to customers in North America and Western Europe. DiasporaTV expects to start accepting customers in Q2 of 2009. The service will initially offer Albanian channels to U.S. and Canadian subscribers. Unlike traditional television, IPTV is delivered via the Internet.

For many Europeans living outside of their countries, seeing images and hearing news from the cities they grew up in means a lot. Most TV channels in Europe broadcast via satellite to neighboring countries but not across the Atlantic. DiasporaTV intends to bridge the gap and re-broadcast live European TV channels to subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.

By leveraging the latest technological advances, TV signals can be transmitted from Europe to North America through the transatlantic internet superhighway. Channels are likewise distributed through public internet, requiring subscribers to have at least DSL internet service installed. Because DiasporaTV uses the Internet as a delivery medium, it is able to keep operational costs at a minimum, thus resulting in lower prices for potential subscribers.

DiasporaTV plans to open its doors sometime in Q2.
