Tcom&dtvro Integrates FOCUS Enhancements TV-Out Chip for New IPTV Set-top Box
FOCUS Enhancements today announced Tcom&dtvro has selected the FS-454 video processor to deliver TV-out for its TD 530 TV-over-IP (IPTV) Set-top Box (STB).
The FS-454-driven TD 530 offers a feature rich, interoperable IPTV STB solution. It provides advanced interactive multimedia applications such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP), IPTV for telecommunication carriers, corporate infrastructure, and hospitality markets. The TD 530 also features H.264 enabling major telecommunication providers (telcos) and Internet service providers (ISPs) to deliver streaming video and audio over at rates as low as 1.5 Megabits per second (Mbps), significantly reducing bandwidth from the 4 - 5 Mbps typically required by MPEG-2.
"This design win strengthens our lead in the STB arena. It is also the second STB incorporating the FS-454 video processor to enter production this year," said Tom Hamilton, executive vice president and general manager of FOCUS Enhancements' semiconductor group. "Delivering key design wins along with growing interest in our chip designs demonstrate the strength of our semiconductor solutions in video processing. We are optimistic that we will build on this momentum in 2005."
The FS-454 delivers DVD-quality video using studio-grade encoders and perfect TV-sizing scalers, straight from the Web or a central media server to an analog or digital standard definition television or basic 480p high definition TV.
"Our new TD 530 is the first H.264 solution on the market, providing major telcos and ISPs with a real world solution to increase customer satisfaction and reduce costs," said Gavin Kim, marketing director for Tcom&dtvro. "The FS-454 is a key video enabler, helping our customers deliver broadcast-quality video to their subscribers in an innovative, affordable solution."
"The FS-454 is an industry leading digital video encoder and PC-to-video scan converter that supports High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) outputs," said Mike Kelly, vice president of marketing for FOCUS Enhancements' Semiconductor Group. "Tcom&dtvro were seeking the highest quality, cost effective solution for its TV-out needs, and we worked closely with them to help them create and market an industry leading STB."
The FS-453/FS-454 video processors provide conversion of digital PC graphics to virtually all standard definition television (SDTV) and high definition television (HDTV) formats. These chips accept resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 1280x1024 (SXGA) and can output virtually all NTSC, PAL or HDTV formats, on any size TV. The FS-453/FS-454 video processors provide glueless compatibility with most graphics controller chips (GCCs) and will deliver multiple display modes to PC monitors, SD and HD TV screens. These ICs consume less power and generate less heat than similar-purposed chips, plus they provide aggressive power control modes for use in notebook PCs and consumer electronics appliances. The FS-454 provides the globally implemented Macrovision 7.1 DVD anti-copy protection technology in the encoder for all TV outputs, including protection for 480p, progressive component output. These features provide stunning visual quality for games and text rendering, offering the highest quality text presentation available, regardless of the language rendered.
