Actiontec Debuts New MegaPlug 4 Port AV Switch
Actiontec
announces the latest addition to its award-winning powerline portfolio with the launch of its new MegaPlug AV 4 Port Switch. The sleek device instantly turns any electrical outlet in the home into a high-speed Internet connection with speeds up to 200 Mbps. And with four built-in ports, the new switch allows more devices to take advantage of the high-performance powerline network simultaneously.
Users are able to extend their broadband network wherever an electrical outlet is available to maximize the use of the increasing number of Ethernet-ready devices in today's home. For example, in the home theater, users can easily bring high speed Internet access to their TiVO®, DVR device, satellite receiver, Blu-Ray Disc player, gaming console, HDTV, and enable applications like video-on-demand, multiplayer gaming, and HD video streaming.
By tapping into the home's existing electrical wiring, powerline technology networks the home without having to run Ethernet wires all through the house or struggle with spotty or unreliable wireless connections. Actiontec's MegaPlug AV 4 Port Switch is based on the latest HomePlug AV standard that more than doubles the rates of previous generation HomePlug solutions. As a result, the device is ideal for high-performance "triple play" multimedia services like HD video streaming, and console gaming.
Henrichs continued, "Powerline is not just for the end user. Many of our carrier customers are using powerline products as a way to improve customer satisfaction, to speed installation of services and to continue to add value to their customer experience."
Installation takes only seconds. Simply plug the MegaPlug AV 4 Port Switch into an electrical outlet in wherever a network connection is needed. Connect the switch to four Ethernet-ready devices. Then, connect any other Actiontec MegaPlug Adapter to an outlet near the broadband router, and connect that adapter to the router. And that's it -- no software or configuration is required.
The new switch is based on Actiontec's popular push-button design that delivers advanced security features (including 128-bit Advanced Encryption Security) while keeping setup simple. Protecting the home network is as easy as the literal press of a button. As a result, consumers with no home networking experience can keep their personal data safe and eliminate the risk of network hijacking (particularly in a dorm, condo, or apartment setting) without having to struggle with complex configuration screens on a computer.
The switch supports all operating systems including Mac OS X Leopard and Windows Vista and is compatible with any wired or wireless broadband router or gateway, satellite or cable set top box, or any device with Ethernet capability.
The Actiontec MegaPlug AV 200 Mbps Powerline Ethernet Kit includes the 4 Port Switch and one 200 Mbps Powerline Ethernet Adapter. It is available for preorder for $149.99 at
