Hitachi to Demonstrate FTTP Multimedia Conferencing, VoIP, IP and RF Video at Supercomm 2005
Hitachi
, Ltd. and
Hitachi Telecom
(USA), Inc. announced that Hitachi will demonstrate a broad range of real-world FTTP (Fiber-to-the-Premises) applications at Supercomm 2005, June 6-9 in Chicago, Illinois.
To be staged in Hitachi's booth 67019, the demonstrations cover a wide range of applications that are enabled by the enhanced bandwidth delivery of FTTP, and include the following:
-- Legacy Triple Play: Hitachi's AMN1200 SFU ONT (Optical Network Terminal) terminates a single optical fiber to the home and provides voice service over existing residential telephone wiring, RF video over existing coaxial cable, and 100Mbps line rate Ethernet data.
-- IP Triple Play: The AMN1200 ETU (an indoor ONT similar in size to a DSL or cable modem) and AMN1200 EHU (an outdoor version of the ETU) terminate a single fiber to the home and provide an IP/Ethernet connection (up to 100 Mbps line rate) that can be used for high-speed data or with the attachment of the appropriate gateways, can provide IP video and Voice over IP (VoIP).
-- Multimedia Conferencing: a multipoint, multimedia conferencing application provides full motion video, voice, virtual white board plus chat capability.
-- VoIP: Arcturus Networks, Inc. and Renesas Technology Corp. (A joint venture of Hitachi, Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation) will demonstrate VoIP platforms, including routers, gateways and adapters.
These demonstrations are evidence of the growing acceptance of FTTP as the access method of choice. VoIP gateways, IPTV set top boxes, and other devices are readily available at mass-market price points that will only accelerate the deployment of FTTP networks. And new applications, such as multimedia conferencing, are being developed to take advantage of the vast potential of FTTP bandwidth.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology is enjoying rapid growth in the United States and worldwide. The initial driver for this growth has been the expansion in the number of DSL and cable modem subscribers. But as the FTTP market takes off, VoIP will be both a driver for and a beneficiary of the higher bandwidth of FTTP and the simplicity that results when a single optical fiber can deliver voice, data and video services to a home or business, all using a single protocol -- IP.
In a related vein, Hitachi is participating in the ITU-T-sponsored FTTP Interoperability Showcase at Supercomm. The ITU-T Pavilion is located in booth 76088A.
Also at Supercomm Hitachi will display the SINELINK 24G, a microwave radio system using the unlicensed 24GHz band, offering multiple wireless data transmission applications at speeds up to 150Mbps.
