Lucent Demonstrates Advanced IPTV and IP Multimedia Services at Broadband World Forum 2005
At the International Engineering Consortium's (IEC) Broadband World Forum conference and exhibition taking place in Madrid, Spain, October 3-6,
Lucent Technologies
will showcase its advanced IPTV and IP Multimedia services and solutions.
Lucent will demonstrate how its broadband access solutions, combined with Lucent's industry-leading Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution, enable wireline, wireless and converged network operators to offer compelling new "blended lifestyle" services that integrate telephony features, Web and TV capabilities in exciting ways and deliver them to consumers or business customers anytime, anywhere.
Lucent also will show how network operators can simplify the integration and management of complex multimedia networks by leveraging Lucent Worldwide Service's expertise in professional and consulting services, and network management software.
"Service providers are in a great position to go beyond simple IPTV to offer new, ground-breaking multimedia services to consumers," said Rob Piconi, vice president and general manager for Broadband Solutions at Lucent Technologies. "We're excited to show our customers how they can delight consumers and business users with a true multimedia experience by combining video with interactive applications such as Web browsing, video conferencing and personal, portable TV services."
Lucent's exhibit (stand #7005 at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos) will highlight a variety of services that can help operators generate new revenue and deliver unmatched customer value. The demonstrations include live broadcast TV and video on demand being delivered over IP, featuring MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video streaming. The exhibit also will showcase new, integrated multimedia applications, including games on demand, a unique Bell Labs- developed personalized mobile TV service, blended lifestyle applications including Family Tracker, Missed Call, Video Messaging and Video Greetings, as well as Video Conferencing on TV, Caller ID on TV (with program pause), blended video and data services (e.g. watching a TV program while simultaneously communicating with friends via IM or VoIP), and Web on TV.
Lucent will be featuring solutions and applications that enable service providers to leverage Lucent's expertise in IPTV and VoIP, broadband access technologies and multivendor network, systems and applications integration capabilities. The Lucent stand features key elements of the company's IPTV and IP video and multimedia portfolio, including the Stinger ® FS+ (part of Lucent's Stinger ® Portfolio of DSL Access Concentrators) supporting live IPTV traffic over a Gigabit Ethernet architecture using the IP2100 control module for full IP routing, as well as advanced Layer 3 features including IP multicast routing and ADSL2+ high-bandwidth line interface modules. In addition, Lucent's AnyMedia ® Line Access Gateway 1900, a high-density multiservice network gateway for voice and broadband services, will be supporting live VoIP traffic enabling service providers to economically evolve to next-generation networks.
Lucent's exhibit also will show how Lucent Worldwide Services combines its network, systems and applications integration capabilities along with partner video products including ORCA's RIGHTv middleware platform, the SeaChange IP Video System, Widevine's CypherSuite Encryption and Conditional Access Solution, Harmonic's DiviCom MV 100 multi-codec encoding platform, and Set-Top Boxes from Amino to deliver an extensive suite of IPTV capabilities. As a prime integrator, Lucent serves as the single point of contact for the integration and delivery of a complete IPTV solution.
"We are excited to offer a complete end-to-end IPTV solution that leverages LWS' network and video expertise and best-in-class partner products," said Stef van Aarle, vice president of marketing, Lucent Worldwide Services. "Lucent, in collaboration with its partners, offers an open, highly-scalable, reliable and mass-market-ready IPTV and other personalized multimedia applications to our customers now and in the future."
