Huawei awarded Phase II IPTV contract by Maroc Telecom
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world today announced that Morocco's
Maroc Telecom
has selected Huawei as the exclusive supplier for the second phase of its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) project to expand the existing capacity of its IPTV infrastructure to cater to strong market demand. Maroc Telecom has registered more than 10,000 subscribers registered for its IPTV service in just three months.
Huawei's highly scalable end-to-end solution was again chosen for Phase 2 because it offers a wide range of services, stable system operation, and provides an excellent user experience. The first phase of the IPTV project covered the capital city Rabat and Casablanca, and the service focused on BTV and VOD by adopting the most advanced H.264 coding format.
According to the phase two contract, Huawei will add Video Value Added service for Maroc Telecom, and provide uniform management and backup of the network-wide equipment; effective, and reliable content protection mechanism; and the EPG interface customization function that reflects the local characteristics of Morocco. The user channels will be expanded from the 50 channels implemented in phase I to 100 channels in phase II, with the coverage extended from Rabat and Casablanca to the entire country.
Zhang Guoxin, Director of Huawei's Digital Media Entertainment Product Line, stated, "We will construct a highly reliable H.264-based, expandable IPTV commercial office for Maroc Telecom which will be one of the largest of its type in the world. The end-to-end solution will further strengthen the competitiveness of the company in the broadband area."
Since 1999, Huawei has been working on the R&D of media streaming technologies. Huawei boasts patented key IPTV technologies such as; balanced bearing, low bandwidth consumption, and convergence frameworks. Huawei guarantees low OpEx for operators worldwide by providing open and standard middleware systems, and with the support of Cascade, software for server-based middleware so that more part suppliers (including STB suppliers) can create IPTV solutions and can contribute to the growth of the entire IPTV industry chain.
To date Huawei's end-to-end IPTV solutions have been deployed by over 40 telecom operators globally, including six commercial deployments, serving over 300,000 subscribers. Maroc Telecom is one of the largest H.264-based IPTV commercial office in the world. The phase II capacity expansion project will further secure Huawei's position as a leading edge IPTV provider.
