Calix Speaks at Telecom '05
Calix
announced that Frank Wiener, vice president of field marketing, and Geoff Burke, IPTV marketing director, will speak at three separate sessions at Telecom 05 in Las Vegas. Calix is a leading supplier of multiservice access solutions that simplify information, communication, and entertainment service delivery to business and residential subscribers over fiber and copper networks.
Wiener will be a keynote speaker for the Telecommunications Engineering Conference (TEC) track on Wednesday, October 26, at 1:45 p.m. PST, at the Venetian Convention Center, ballroom H. Wiener will provide a high-level overview of the physical transformation of the network to provide ubiquitous broadband delivery of emerging information, communication, and entertainment services using FTTP or DSL. He will also explore the logical transformation of the network infrastructure from circuits to packets to maximize network efficiency.
Following Wiener's keynote appearance, Burke will chair a SuperSession entitled "Bringing Hollywood to the Home -- Addressing Content Acquisition and Delivery Issues Head On." This panel will discuss how content issues will affect vendors in each link of the IPTV chain. Joining Burke on this panel will be speakers from Twentieth Century Fox, TVN, Telechannel, Skystream, Verimatrix, and Accord Media Group.
Burke will offer insights into successful IPTV marketing campaigns at a workshop entitled "Mining your Copper for Gold." The workshop will be held on Sunday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Longhi meeting room in the Venetian hotel. This session will detail how ILECs can transition from demand driven to marketing driven companies. ILECs will learn how to motivate all employees to embrace a "we can do it" culture to meet and beat the competition.
Wiener has over 18 years of telecom experience ranging from engineering, to marketing, to executive-level general management. He has a diverse technical and marketing background that spans enterprise access and networking solutions with Paradyne and AT&T, fiber transmission solutions with Nortel, and multiservice access solutions with Calix. Wiener joined Calix in 2001 as vice president of business development and later transitioned to his current role as the vice president of field marketing. Wiener is the author of The DSL Source Book and The Book on Video, which together have over 100,000 copies in print.
Burke is a nationally recognized expert in IPTV and advanced services. Prior to joining Calix, he was principal and founder of Video Catalyst Group (VCG), a consulting firm dedicated to assisting local exchange carriers (LECs) in building successful video and other IP strategies and services. Previously, Burke served as the director of marketing services at Motorola/Next Level Communications and also held senior management roles at The McKenna Group, BearingPoint, and Oracle Corporation.
