Verimatrix Extends its VCAS Content Security Solutions for Hybrid Broadcast and Broadband Networks
Verimatrix
, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today introduced its VCAST for DVB security system, which extends the benefits of the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) to hybrid broadcast and broadband network applications. VCAS for DVB is a best-in-class, comprehensive security system for hybrid network pay-TV services built on proven, mature Internet cryptographic technologies. VCAS for DVB enables system operators to combine standards-based DVB technology for broadcast distribution with the interactivity of IPTV systems using a single robust security solution. Verimatrix's software-based architecture is not only more secure than conventional smartcard approaches, but also enables the deployment of less expensive set-top box (STB) hardware and a more flexible capacity to respond to theft of service attacks. Verimatrix will be demonstrating VCAS for DVB capabilities at IBC2006 Hall 4, Booth 199.
VCAS for DVB was developed in response to demand from cable, satellite, terrestrial and IPTV providers that see the potential for hybrid approaches to enhance their service offerings by augmenting traditional digital broadcasts with premium Video-on-Demand (VOD) content. VCAS for DVB is fully compliant with DVB standards for transport streams and content encryption. It also features Verimatrix MultiCAST technology t o provide a single content security management approach for DVB-C, DVB-S or DVB-T in conjunction with a VCAS secured IPTV network. To extend the security perimeter of the entire system, VCAS for DVB includes patent-pending QuantumIDT, a perfect clone detection technology that addresses theft of service challenges for system operators.
"The interactive capabilities of IPTV are a very compelling addition to the traditional broadcast model, enabling higher value services and extensive customization consistent with where the TV industry is headed," said Bob Kulakowski, CTO, Verimatrix. "Our VCAS software-based content security technology is based on open and proven Internet security principles and designed to help eliminate the vulnerabilities - and high cost of hardware - related to current generation smartcard-based architectures."
VCAS is built on the principles of PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) using X.509 digital certificates to identify each component in the system as well as the means to securely encrypt data using public/private keys. Verimatrix's DVB compliant architecture for broadcast streams leverages integrations with top-tier IP streamer and head-end management equipment vendors. Verimatrix has created an extensive partnership ecosystem to ensure its content security solutions are tightly integrated and offer maximum choice and flexibility for system operators. Leading partners include the major subscriber management and middleware vendors.
